Dharamshala & Dalhousie

Day 01 – Arrive Pathankot & drive to Dharamshala (85 kms / 2 ½ hrs approx.)

Arrive Pathankot & drive to Dharamshala & you will be met & transferred to your hotel. Dharamshala – Perhaps one of the best holiday destinations since the time of the British. Situated amid coniferous forests, this place is renowned as the holy abode of The Dalai Lama- the leader of Tibetan Buddhism. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel. Later see Dharamshala cricket stadium (from outside), Dal Lake, Naddi, Satdhara Falls (guest needs to trek, vehicle can go till parking only). Return back to hotel. Overnight stay in Dharamshala.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Dharamshala

After breakfast, enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of Dharamsala. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the towering Dhauladhar ranges, which rise up to more than 4000 meters, Dharamshala, which literally means The Holy Refuge, lies perched up on the high slopes in the upper reaches of the Kangra valley. Dharamshala is better known as Dalai Lama's abode and Tibet's Government-in-exile after the Chinese invasion of Lhasa in October 1959. The vestiges of the Raj dot the town - visit the church of St. John, with its well-maintained, old graveyard. A visit to the Namgyal Monastery, ensconcing the Center of Tibetan Studies is nothing short of mandatory. Visit McLeod Ganj - Little Lhasa is thick with the Tibetan cultural feel. It is an altogether different world where the crisp breeze is broken by chanting of the hymns along with the tinkling of the prayer wheels. Later, visit the Kangra Art Musem, which has a treasure trove of the art and crafts of region. Overnight stay in Dharamshala.

Day 03: Drive from Dharamshala – Chintpurni - Dalhousie (230 kms / approx. 6.5 hours)

After breakfast, check out from hotel & proceed for excursion to Chintpurni, later further drive to Dalhousie. Dalhousie is a hill station full of colonial charm that holds lingering echoes of the Raj. Spread out over five hills (Kathlog Potreys, Tehra, Bakrota & Bolun) the town is named after the 19th century British governor general Lord Dalhousie. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel and spend the evening at leisure. Overnight stay in Dalhousie.

Day 04: Sightseeing in Dalhousie

After breakfast, enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of Dalhousie. Start with Kalatop, a wild life sanctuary with dense woody Deodar forests making it a natural habitat to the 'ghoral' and Himalayan black bear. The neatly maintained zigzag roads of the sanctuary make it a superb strolling path to the visitors. Continue on to St. Andrew's Church, which was built in the year 1903 by protestant Christians and commonly known as the Church of Scotland. Its arched windows and intricate carvings represent the Scottish style architecture. Also visit St Francis Church, with its magnificent stone works and glass designs. Next proceed to St John’s Church, a protestant Church that is reminiscent of the Victorian era. This soaring formation is a replica of the Roman Catholic Church of England. Lastly, visit St Patrick’s Church, which was built in the year 1909. Dainkund Peak. Overnight stay in Dalhousie.

Day 05: Excursion to Khajjiar & Chamba – Pathankot (82 kms / 2 ½ hours)

After breakfast, drive to Khajjiar to spend the day in what is called India’s ‘mini-Switzerland’. Khajjiar is among the 160 places in the world that was officially given the title because of its resemblance to the lovely landscapes in Switzerland. The lush green meadows are a photographer’s delight. Khajjiar Lake is situated at the centre of the plains. Later visit to Chamba. Visit the famous Laxmi Narayan Temple (Ancient and Historical Temple) and the Chamunda Temple (famous for its ancient wooden carving) both are the sidh piths of Chamba.

After the visit, drive to Pathankot. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Pathankot railway station for return journey back home.
